VERIZON
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Verizon is upgrading their local infrastructure to install advanced fiber technology
for high speed internet services. This ongoing work is being conducted exclusively
by Verizon and its contractors (Koscom is contracted for the states for NJ, VA
and MD).
To date, Verizon has been on residential roads burying conduit and placing utility
pedestals or boxes in the public right-of-way, which typically extends 15-20 feet
into lawns from either edge of the road pavement.
Completion of the Verizon network update is expected to span the next 3-4 years.
The work will be done in small segments of the city to minimize disruption, and
make Fios Internet and voice service available in Alexandria as the network is
upgraded.
SCOPE OF WORK:
• Installed 600 miles of fiber optic cable for Verizon’s network upgrade in Alexandria, VA.
• Employed underground solutions utilizing specialized directional drilling equipment, drilling approximately 80,000 feet of communications pathways.
• Expected completion within a span of 3-4 years.
• Engaged a dedicated team of 20 technicians.
